They may have been Bonnie and Clyde back in 2003, but now they are Mr. and Mrs. Carter. And on Thursday (April 4) Beyoncé and Jay-Z celebrated five years of wedded bliss in Cuba, with their moms in tow.
According to the Associated Press, they spent their anniversary day walking around the colonial Old Havana district with their bodyguards. Beyoncé sported a bright yellow frock with her braided hair done up while Jay-Z wore a polo shirt and a fedora.
Photos show the pair walking hand-in-hand, with crowds gathering for a glimpse. At one point, Beyoncé even took a photo with local school children.
The night before, they hit up local restaurant La Guarida with their mothers. Jay puffed on a cigar while she took photos of him, according to restaurant manager Beberan Aemereca, who spoke to E! News about the dinner.
"Everyone was surprised when they came in," he said. "They looked like a family, like a family dinner. It was like they were on vacation and were very relaxed and happy."
While inside the Havana restaurant, fans shouted Beyoncé's name and she eventually went to the balcony to wave to them. "She was beautiful, without a drop of makeup, very natural," waitress Silvia Fernandez told the AP."What happened with the people was incredible." E! reports Jay-Z also joined her on the balcony to say hi to their fans.
The couple married on April 4, 2008 in a rather secret ceremony in New York City and welcomed their first child, Blue Ivy, into the world in 2012. The same day they celebrated their wedding anniversary, Beyoncé dropped a teaser of a new song, "Grown Woman," off her 2013 album release. On the funky Timbaland-produced track, she sings, "I could be bad if I want / I can go slow all night long / I'm a grown woman/ Do whatever I want."
Earlier this week, Bey also dished about being Mrs. Carter in the new issue of Vogue U.K. "I feel like Mrs. Carter is who I am, but more bold and more fearless than I've ever been," she said. "It comes from knowing my purpose and really meeting myself once I saw my child. I was like, 'OK, this is what you were born to do'. The purpose of my body became completely different."
